At 5,364 metres above sea level, Everest Base Camp is one of the most remote and extreme environments on earth. Most people spend months preparing just to reach it. Some run a marathon there.
The Winter Everest Marathon is exactly that — a biennial international high-altitude race held on December 1st, where runners from around the world choose between a full 42.195km marathon and a 21km half marathon, crisscrossing the legendary Sherpa trails of the Khumbu valley in the shadow of the world’s highest peak.
An event this extraordinary needed a website that could carry its weight.
The Problem
The event organisers needed a platform that could handle everything an international sporting event demands online — race information, distance breakdowns, registration, package costs, results, sponsor listings, and a countdown to race day. Runners flying in from across the world needed to find everything they needed to commit to the journey, in one place, without confusion.
With participants making significant travel and financial commitments, the site needed to project credibility and excitement in equal measure.
What I Built
I built a dedicated event website for the Winter Everest Marathon with a live countdown timer to race day, full distance information pages for both the full and half marathon, entrance information, package costs, and a results archive. Partner and sponsor logos are featured prominently, reflecting the international backing the event carries.
The registration flow connects directly to the entrance information, guiding interested runners from discovery through to sign-up. A non-runner participation option was also built in, recognising that some people want to be part of the experience without competing.
The site has since been managed by the client’s team.
The Result
A high-impact event website that matches the scale of what the Winter Everest Marathon represents — an invitation to conquer not the mountain, but yourself, at one of the most breathtaking finish lines on earth.
