Buddhist Circuits

Client Himalaya Expeditions

Over 500 million people follow Buddhism worldwide. Yet the most sacred sites on earth — the place where Siddhartha was born, where he meditated under the Bodhi tree, where he gave his first teaching — remain largely unknown to the world outside of pilgrims who already know where to look.

Himalaya Expeditions wanted to change that.

The Problem

The client had deep expertise in Buddhist pilgrimage tours across Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, China, and beyond. But their story wasn’t being told online. There was no single destination where a curious traveller, a devoted pilgrim, or a spiritual seeker could follow the full arc of the Buddha’s life — from birth to enlightenment — and then book a journey to walk that path themselves.

The brief was clear: build a website that educates as much as it inspires, and converts that inspiration into bookings.

What I Built

Buddhist Circuits is a full WordPress website built around the story of Shakyamuni Buddha’s life. The site traces the four gateways of the Buddhist circuit — Lumbini in Nepal where the Buddha was born, Bodhgaya in India where he attained enlightenment, Varanasi where he gave his first sermon, and Kushinagar where he passed into Mahaparinirvana.

Tour packages were structured around this narrative — from quick circuits to full multi-country itineraries spanning 11 to 13 days. Each destination page educates the visitor on the significance of the site before presenting the tour options, making the booking decision feel like a natural next step rather than a sales pitch.

A news and views blog was integrated to keep the site alive with fresh content, and a booking system was built so enquiries could come in directly from the site.

The Result

A website that does what no other Buddhist tourism site quite manages — it makes you feel the journey before you take it. The site now serves as the digital home for one of Nepal’s most spiritually significant tour offerings, connecting pilgrims and travellers from across the world to the footsteps of the Buddha.

Some projects are just work. This one felt like something more.
